If you were to analyse all websites on the internet, and divide them up into 4 main categories, I am guessing that those categories would be:
1. Sex
2. Sports, casinos, and gambling
3. Affiliate sites
4. Other
You probably already knew that the internet was full of sex and gambling but did you know that so many of those sites were actually AFFILIATES of other sites?
SO WHAT IS AN AFFILIATE?
Imagine walking down the road, minding your own business and somebody stops you and asks you if you know a good book shop. You do happen to know a good bookshop and so you direct the enquirer to the shop that you know, and happily go on your way knowing that you have done a good deed.
A few steps later you stop and think....I maybe just helped that bookshop make a sale. I wish there was a way that I could get some form of credit from that.
On the internet there is. You can become and AFFILIATE and earn commissions from referring customers to websites and services simply by registering your interest in promoting their websites (most good websites have an affiliate program or webmaster program) and placing adverts containing your referral code in places that people will see them. That could be in a website or a blog, or even as a footer in your personal emails. The best thing about it is that the site does the work selling to your prospect, but you get paid a commission for his purchase just for introducing him.... often EVERYTME he makes a purchase for either a fixed duration or a lifetime.
Yes it is true, some sites pay lifetime commission. BUT READ THE SMALL PRINT because not all do.
I have referred customers to a site and I am still earning commission from them two years later, but I have also referred customers to other sites that dry up after a maximum of two weeks. It doesn't mean the customer has stopped spending. It just means that the time limit on your referral has expired. This is reasonable I suppose, but given the choice, I generally refer only to websites with lifetime commissions.
SO WHAT SHOULD I PROMOTE?
A simple fact. If you want to be successful in sales, you need to be selling something that people want. On the internet that something is either SEX or GAMBLING which explains why there are so many websites dedicated to these industries.
Whereas the income of affiliates who introduce customers to gambling websites can be very attractive, there is also a downside in that if you refer a "winning customer" it is unlikely that you will ever get paid from that introduction, and sometimes his or her winnings will also affect your referral income from other customers. There are of course some exceptions, but as ageneral rule you will only make money referring LOSING customers. Sadly there is no real way of knowing before they click your link code !
SEX SITES on the other hand pay on all signups.
SO WHAT KIND OF SITE SHOULD I BE PROMOTING?
In a word CAMS.
